\u201cWhat is it with you and dogs?\u201d my friend asked as we sat in the glistering sun, drinking iced-coffee and looking over the square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d I snapped back as the question had hit me off-guard and I had no clue where he was going with this dialog. Dogs weren\u2019t really my thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDid a dog bite you as a child?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo,\u201d not that I could remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDid you own a dearly loved dog that met its fate in a tragic accident?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo,\u201d I would have remembered if that had been the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDid you always want a dog but were never allowed to?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo,\u201d pets had never been high on my wish lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy do dogs then always appear in such a negative light in your stories?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d They do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my mind I ran through the collection of short stories I had published a few weeks earlier. Dogs did indeed make an appearance in a few of the stories, but I couldn’t see that they did so in a negative way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt’s like there’s a dog in your soul,\u201d my friend declared after a short pause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That was the weirdest psychoanalysis I had ever heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI must say that I neither believe in a dog in a soul nor a soul in a dog.\u201d This was a funny phrase. Something I could use in a story at some point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLook! You did it again!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d Now I was completely lost in this discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, never mind,\u201d my friend sighed. \u201cI would, however, if I were you, have this issue looked at by a specialist one day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
